Brief:

You are flying from North Bend, Oregon, to Eugene, Oregon, to deliver a rescue puppy for the pilot n paws program.  The family receiving the puppy is expecting to meet you at Atlantic Aviation in Eugene in an hour and a half.  The weather is just slightly worse than forecast when you planned the flight yesterday afternoon, and now you need to add an alternate to your flight plan.

Objectives

  • Determine route based on aircraft performance and airspace.
  • Determine alternate requirements.
  • Obtain clearance from ATC.
  • Perform missed approach.
  • Perform standard holds.
  • Fly 3 instrument approach procedures.

Briefing

  • Arrive to briefing with planning completed using weather and information contained in the Pilot Briefing Packet.
  • Assume the aircraft has 3 hours of fuel and loaded to max gross weight.
  • Everything is operational unless indicated by the instructor.
  • The briefing will cover any questions you have from the planning process as well as quizzing by the instructor to ensure a working knowledge of the IFR system.
  • Select either a C-206T or C-172

Completion Standards

  • Correctly determines the aircraft is equipped to fly the route and meets performance requirements
  • Completes flight plan with appropriate alternate airport, using supplied TAF
  • Pilotedge will be used for ATC communications during hours of operation of pilotedge.
  • Use of the Autopilot and Automation of the G1000 is encouraged
  • Perform 3 approach procedures, missed approach procedures and holding patterns as applicable to Instrument rating ACS standards
  • Completes all checklists, procedures, and communications. Minor differences will exist between the simulator and airplane (eg. alt static source) so verbalize what you are doing when such instances occur.
