Don't Spin!

Recognizing an incipient spin and recovering immediately is one of the most important skills in aviation.

1-min review

What You'll Do Today

Today you learn to catch a spin in the very first second — before it ever gets going. This early stage is called the incipient spin, and the fix is fast and simple if you react right away.

  • Learn what the start of a spin looks and feels like (a sudden wing drop and a twist)
  • Practice reacting immediately — no waiting
  • Use opposite rudder to stop the twist, then break the stall and add power
  • Repeat until your reaction is quick and automatic

By the end you'll be able to recognize an incipient spin and start your recovery without having to think about it.
