Aiming Point
The point on the windshield that does not move is where you will land. If the numbers stay still, you will hit the numbers.
What You'll Do Today
Today you learn a pilot's secret for landing right where you want: the aiming point. On final approach, one spot on the runway seems to stay perfectly still in your view. That's the spot you're heading for — so you make it the numbers.
- Find the aiming point — the spot that doesn't move as you fly toward it
- If you're going to land short, reduce flaps or raise the nose a touch
- If you're going to land long, add flaps or lower the nose a touch
- Hold 65 knots the whole way down
By the end you'll be able to glance at the runway and know exactly where you're about to land.
