Short Runway

Short field takeoff: use every inch of runway. Short field landing: stop in the shortest distance possible.

1-min review

What You'll Do Today

Today you fly into and out of a short runway, where there isn't much room to spare. Taking off, you use every inch of pavement. Landing, you touch down right at the start and stop quickly.

  • Short-field takeoff: hold the brakes, add full power, then release and lift off at minimum speed
  • Climb steeply at best angle speed (Vx, 56 knots) to clear obstacles
  • Short-field landing: aim for the numbers, touch down on target, and brake firmly
  • Learn how much runway your airplane really needs

By the end you'll be able to operate from runways that are too short for an everyday landing.
