Steeper Turns
Big Idea
Steeper banks turn faster but require more back pressure and more attention to altitude.
Fun Fact
In a 60-degree bank turn, you feel twice your body weight — like being on a roller coaster!
What You Will Learn
- Increase bank angle to 30 degrees
- Add back pressure to maintain altitude (nose drops in steeper turns)
- Add a little power to maintain speed
- Roll out on a specific heading
Simulator Steps
- Start a turn and increase the bank to about 30 degrees
- Notice the nose wants to drop — pull back gently
- Add a tiny bit of power to keep the speed up
- Watch the altimeter — try to stay within 100 feet
- Pick a heading to stop on and roll wings level when you get there
What You Learned
- Steeper bank = faster turn but more work
- Pull back to maintain altitude in steeper turns
- Always roll out on your target heading
