Make It Move
Big Idea
The yoke controls pitch (nose up/down) and roll (wings tilt). Small movements make big changes!
Fun Fact
An airplane moves in three directions at once — pitch, roll, and yaw. That is one more than a car!
Challenge
Can you keep the wings perfectly level for 10 seconds?
What You Will Learn
- Pull back on the yoke to pitch the nose up
- Push forward to pitch the nose down
- Turn the yoke left to roll left, right to roll right
- Try to fly straight and level using just the yoke
Simulator Steps
- Start in the air at 4,000 feet (instructor sets this up)
- Gently pull back on the yoke — watch the nose go up on the screen
- Push forward gently — watch the nose go down
- Turn the yoke left — the airplane rolls and starts to turn
- Try to fly straight and level for 30 seconds
What You Learned
- Pull back = nose up, push forward = nose down
- Turn yoke left = roll left, turn right = roll right
- Small movements are all you need
