Touch and Go
Big Idea
A touch-and-go is landing, then immediately taking off again without stopping. It is the best way to practice landings.
Fun Fact
Student pilots typically do 50-100 touch-and-goes before their first solo flight!
Challenge
Can you do 3 touch-and-goes in a row without the instructor helping?
What You Will Learn
- Fly the full pattern: takeoff through landing
- Touch down on the runway (do not stop)
- Retract flaps, add full power, take off again
- Climb back to pattern altitude and do it again
Simulator Steps
- Complete the full traffic pattern
- Land on the runway — wheels touch, keep it straight
- Quickly: flaps UP, throttle FULL
- The airplane accelerates and lifts off again
- Climb to pattern altitude and fly the pattern again
What You Learned
- Touch-and-go: land, clean up, take off again
- Flaps up and full power after touchdown
- Each time around you get better
