Taxi Practice
Big Idea
On the ground, you steer with your feet (rudder pedals), not the yoke.
Fun Fact
The yellow line on the taxiway is called the centerline — pilots try to keep the nose wheel right on it.
Challenge
Can you taxi from the ramp to the runway without going off the taxiway?
What You Will Learn
- Add a little power to start moving
- Steer with the rudder pedals (not the yoke!)
- Practice stopping with the toe brakes
- Stop at the hold short line before the runway
Simulator Steps
- After engine start, add a tiny bit of throttle to start rolling
- Press left rudder to turn left, right rudder to turn right
- Practice stopping — press the top of both pedals (brakes)
- Taxi to the runway following the yellow taxiway line
- STOP at the hold short line — never cross without permission!
What You Learned
- Feet steer on the ground, hands steer in the air
- Brakes are on top of the rudder pedals
- Always stop at the hold short line
