Wind on the Ground
Big Idea
Wind pushes the airplane even on the ground — you have to point the controls into the wind.
Fun Fact
A strong wind can actually flip a small airplane on the ground if the pilot does not position the controls correctly!
What You Will Learn
- Listen to the weather report (ATIS) to find the wind direction
- Position the yoke correctly based on where the wind is coming from
- Taxi with wind correction applied
Simulator Steps
- Check the wind direction on the G1000
- If wind is from the left: turn yoke INTO the wind (left)
- If wind is from behind: push yoke FORWARD
- Practice taxiing with the correct yoke position
- Stop at the hold short line with proper wind correction
