Wind on the Ground

Big Idea

Wind pushes the airplane even on the ground — you have to point the controls into the wind.

Fun Fact

A strong wind can actually flip a small airplane on the ground if the pilot does not position the controls correctly!

What You Will Learn

Simulator Steps

  1. Check the wind direction on the G1000
  2. If wind is from the left: turn yoke INTO the wind (left)
  3. If wind is from behind: push yoke FORWARD
  4. Practice taxiing with the correct yoke position
  5. Stop at the hold short line with proper wind correction
